MHA or MBA required Current TN Licensure or eligible • 10+ years Research experience • 10+ years management experience • Excellent communication skills, oral, written and presentation • Excellent organizational skills • Excellent problem solving skills • Customer service orientation • Commitment to individual and team success GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership and direction of clinical research operations for the Vanderbilt Ingram Cancer Center. This includes: study operations, patient recruitment medical partnering, personnel and site administration. Must direct, motivate and train staff; able to organize and prioritize. Must communicate effectively with all levels of the organization. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: o Develop goals and objectives based on interpretation of institutional goals and policy. • Responsible for day to day operational management . including; hiring and developing the team, implementing and managing departmental processes, coordinating with clinical personnel around the conduct of research site service issues. • Collaborate with counsel to negotiate and draft clinical trial research contracts and agreements with clinical trial sites • Support the organization's growth objectives in terms of delivering timely opened studies, accruals on a consistent basis. • Provide Physician advocacy while retaining superior relationships with colleagues. • Accountable for assisting with achieving the VICC's strategic direction and will be expected to focus on the organization's value and financial stability Clinical and Research Leadership • Provides clinical oversight and direction for the execution of trials by clinical operations staff . • Oversee all aspects of research associated with trial execution including: enrollment, patient consent specimen processing, drug distribution, patient safety and CFR adherence. • Manage standard of care issues or conflict of interest issues and implements corrective actions. • Drive the development of research programs in conjunction with physician leadership Staff Development. • Oversee the performance of all Clinical Operations personnel, including role expectations and performance reviews and ensures that staff qualifications are consistent with job responsibilities. • Direct recruitment hiring, development of employees as necessary including performance counseling and termination. Operational • Assists in developing and executing internal and external strategies. • Ensures the most effective operations of the department through process improvement and coordination/integration of processes with other departments. o Oversees planning, development and execution of programs and budgets. • Ensures integrity of patient enrollment information and processes. • Assess studies to assure alignment of CTSR capabilities with the requirements of the studies with regard to objectives, service, procedures and costs, etc. • Plan and facilitate meetings and Committees to address clinical research issues as needed. Fiduciary • Define and achieve financial targets in support of business goals of the institution. • Responsible for developing and maintaining sound financial practices and obtaining and implementing financial advice. • Monitor patient accrual rates at sites. • Develop the operations budget, monitor expenses and operate within budget guidelines and prepares financial statements. Relationship Management • Provide opportunities for communication and collaboration between Vanderbilt University and our community. • Develops a broad awareness of departments goals, objectives and activities. o Represents Vanderbilt University and/or Vanderbilt University Medical Center's point of view to agencies, organizations and the general public. General • Ensure general inquiries from current and prospective patients, sponsors, and physicians are appropriately routed and answered. • Maintains official records and documents and ensure compliance with federal, state and local regulations Background screens will be performed and must be approved prior to employment.
