Job Details: Pediatric Cardiologist

Description: The Children's Hospital of Illinois (CHOI) and the Department of Pediatrics of the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) are seeking candidates for multiple pediatric cardiologist openings in Peoria and regional outreach locations.
The new pediatric cardiologists will be part of six new associates to join a well established team of pediatric cardiologists with 30 plus years of success in the region. Three new pediatric cardiologists will join the staff at CHOI in Peoria and three new pediatric cardiologists will be located in surrounding community cities to support outreach clinics. Professional efforts will be bolstered by the support of two pediatric cardiovascular surgeons. In addition to general pediatric cardiology, opportunities exist for those interested in echocardiography, non-invasive imaging, interventional cardiology, adult congenital heart disease, fetal echocardiography, and electrophysiology. Professional components include in-patient rotation coverage, general cardiology clinic coverage and in-patient/out-patient echocardiography. Scholarly and research interests are highly desirable, along with experience in teaching medical students and residents. The candidate must be board-certified or board-eligible in pediatric cardiology and will report to the Medical Director, Pediatric Cardiology.

Other highlights:
- Pediatric cardiology plan includes expansion to a total of nine pediatric cardiologists within the Section: six based at CHOI in Peoria each with sub-specialized emphasis (General, Echo, Interventional, or EP) and three pediatric cardiologists located in community outreach locations.
- Involved in the development of a Congenital Heart Center for adults and children to specialize in diagnosis, treatment and management of pediatric and congenital heart disease and will work with other physicians in cardiology, cardiac surgery, pediatric critical care, pediatric cardiac anesthesiology, and pediatric cardiac perfusion.
- Busy clinical cardiology practice that includes approximately 5000 echos and 200 catheterizations (50 - 60% interventional) annually including electrophysiology studies.
- Busy cardiovascular surgery program that has been established in Peoria since 1980. In 2007, the two cardiovascular surgeons performed approximately 275 pediatric cardiovascular surgeries.
- A new, 8-story, 440,000 square foot Children's Hospital (to be completed in 2010) integrating children's inpatient services within one building.
- A family-oriented community with good school systems, low crime rates, and a reasonable cost of living. Peoria is located halfway between Chicago and St. Louis.

UICOMP supports a thriving education program with approximately 20 categorical pediatric residents and 32 combined medicine-pediatrics residents. The Department of Pediatrics has 72 faculty members covering most pediatric subspecialties and primary care. The clinical activities of the faculty are primarily concentrated at CHOI.

CHOI is the primary pediatric teaching facility for UICOMP and is a 127-bed facility that offers over 50 pediatric programs and services. These programs represent over 60 pediatric specialists in 24 different disciplines, including the largest pediatric surgery program in Illinois. CHOI is the only full service tertiary hospital for children in downstate Illinois. It is a designated Level I Trauma Center, and a Pediatric Critical Care Center, as well as having a Regional Perinatal Center, and central Illinois' only Level III neonatal intensive care unit.

We are interested in speaking to those currently in practice as well as 2009 fellows. Please contact Bill Masters at (214) 507-4538 or via email at bill@millicansolutions.com for more details.
