Description:
The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (CCNP)
is a member of the cardiothoracic intensive care team
and has his/her primary responsibility the management
of critically ill complex (multi-organ) patients in
an intensive care setting.
This position reports to the department of Advanced Clinical Practice (ACP) works collaboratively with the Heart Center. The CCNP has specialized skills and knowledge related to the unique ICU setting in which s/he practices (Acute Care Unit: 3200) and performs physical exams, collects and documents data, conducts approved diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, orders and schedules laboratory studies and professional consultations, prescribes appropriate interventions and medications, and provides direct patient care services. This position also acts as a resource to (3100/3300) step-down cardiothoracic patients, if special needs arise within their area of skilled expertise. The CCNP contributes to a continuum of excellence in patient care, research teaching, consulting, and provides leadership to the organization and nursing profession. Education Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program. A Bachelors degree and Masters degree in Nursing required; Critical Care / Acute Care NP masters or completion of ACNP/CCNP post master program strongly preferred. Experience Three years minimum as a registered nurse, with minimum of one year experience as an NP, preferably in an ICU setting. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Degrees, Licensures, Certifications Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina . National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment. Certification as an Acute Care or Critical Care Nurse Practitioner strongly preferred. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of Duke University Medical Center , the North Carolina State Board of Nursing, and The North Carolina Medical Board.
