The City of Dover is not only the capital of the First State but also the hometown to many of Delaware's historical landmarks. You will be pleasantly surprised by the variety of historical and cultural attractions. Beautiful farmlands, coastal sceneries and a curious mix of old traditions and modern high-tech culture are at your disposal. Dover boasts two distinct historic areas-one Colonial and one Victorian. As you visit these districts, enjoy the flowers, grand shade trees and brick walks. Throughout downtown Dover you will find specialty shops, neighborhood stores, restaurants and very friendly people. Enjoy all of the action of NASCAR racing! Delaware's beach resorts, including Lewes, Bethany and Rehoboth, are only one hours drive to the south. Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC are all within a two hour drive. Delaware offers everything from whale and dolphin watching to beachcombing, nature walks, sail boarding, parasailing and more! The cultural experiences are also unique-summer arts festivals, art galleries, dinner theater, historic train rides and outdoor performances by the ocean. Shop tax-free in our boutiques, antique shops and outlet centers.
