Organ Donation in British Columbia is an integral part of quality end-of-life medical practice. Reporting to BC Transplant's Director, Organ Donation and Hospital Development, and working within the host hospital, the In-hospital Donation Coordinator is responsible for facilitating all aspects of organ donation. Functioning as an in-hospital resource, they are integral to the implementation of an effective donation program within the hospital setting. Responsibilities include ensuring the option of donation is offered appropriately to every BC resident and supporting families through the donation process, assisting the healthcare provider team in the management of the deceased donor, and coordinating many aspects of the donation process including suitability assessment of organs for transplantation and facilitation of on-site surgical recovery. As a clinical educator, they raise awareness of donation issues, provide on-going education to the hospital community and contribute to continuous quality improvement Your Bachelors degree in a Health Sciences Program is supplemented by five years of critical care or organ donation experience, and certification (or equivalent) in the education of health care professionals. A related designation as a health care professional (nursing, respiratory therapy, Physician's Assistant, Nurse Practitioner) in a critical care setting would be ideal. You bring demonstrated competence in program planning and implementation together with an ability to establish effective relationships with multi-disciplinary stakeholders. This role demands a collaborative approach and proven ability to build consensus during complex decision-making. You are a creative problem-solver, an excellent communicator and possess exceptional facilitation skills. The ability to remain composed and focused when dealing with emotionally-charged issues is required, along with a sensitivity to spiritual and cultural contexts of care. You must be available to participate in a 24-hour call rotation which may be physically demanding.
