Specialist
Job Description: The primary function of the Inpatient Coding Specialist is to review inpatient records, assigning accurate ICD-9-CM codes for each diagnosis and procedure using 3M coding software as well as appropriate coding references. Secondarily, the Inpatient Coding Specialist will provide outpatient coding support on an as-needed basis, assigning CPT/HCPCS codes, modifiers and APC assignments. Additionally, the Inpatient Coding Specialist will adhere to coding compliance regulations and company policies developed to ensure accurate billing. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Certification as a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Registered health Information Administrator (RHIA) preferred. Three years of ongoing coding and abstracting experience in ICD-9-CM, CPT/HCPCS, modifiers, DRGs and APCs preferred.
