Trinity Medical Center - A Registered Nurse
responsible for delivery of critical patient care through
the process of assessment, planning, implementation,
and evaluation.
1. Utilizes the nursing process to include an ongoing, systematic patient assessment, identification of nursing diagnoses, care planning, implementation of nursing interventions, patient and family teaching, evaluation of care and discharge planning for the critically ill patient. 2. Ability to assess, treat and care for patients with unique needs in age groups that include adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. (Consulting with pediatric/obstetrical nurses as necessary.) 3. Implements life saving procedures associated with critically ill patients. Education and formal training: 1. Completion of a Critical Care Course at St. Joseph Hospital or documentation of equivalent course is required. Validation of competency is required by score of 80% or better on Basic Knowledge Assessment Test. 2. ACLS is required and should be completed within 1year after working in the unit or 1 year after successful completion of the CCU course, and renewed as required by AHA. 3. BCLS required. 4. CCRN is strongly encouraged. 5. Completion of Skills Lab Competency Assessment. WORK EXPERIENCE One year experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute care facility in the area of Medical/ Surgical/Telemetry nursing is preferred. Participation in Critical Care Internship accepted in lieu of experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 1. Knowledge and operational skills are necessary to assist with special procedures or operate technological equipment such as: swan ganz insertions, defibrillation or cardioversions, temporary pacemaker programming or insertions, intra-aortic balloon pump, Space-Labs, and cardiac monitoring equipment. 2. Analytical skills are necessary for arrhythmia analysis, hemodynamic monitoring, Pulmonary/Laboratory/Radiologic and EKG interpretations, etc... 3. Knowledge of growth and development necessary for intensive care nursing of adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
