Job Details: RN/CARDIAC CATH LAB/SPECIAL PROCEDURES

 
Description: Trinity Medical Center - Performs patient care procedures, sedation and monitoring of patients during Cardiac Cath procedures and Special procedures. Maintains equipment. Performs other duties as assigned. Must have previous Critical Care experience.
Essential Job Duties:
1. Assesses bio-physical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural and developmental, discharge planning dimensions of patients and provides written data reflecting same upon admission, as well as throughout the patient's hospitalization.
2. Applies knowledge of illness, wellness, growth and development, injuries and diseases and uses available resources and data in the assessment process.
3. Assesses and documents patient condition as well as response to nursing and/or medical interventions, and communicates the information to the appropriate persons.
4. Plans care based on nursing and medical diagnosis and applies appropriate nursing theory and knowledge in implementing Standards of Care/Practice.
5. Utilizes all available resources in planning care and consults, as necessary, with clinical specialists, nurse clinicians, supervisors, physicians, the patient and/or significant other, etc.
6. Develops age-appropriate teaching and discharge plans involving the patient and/or significant other, as well as all appropriate resources.
7. Orders/procures appropriate supplies, equipment for patient care activities and unit needs as necessary. Efficiently utilizes the patient charge/credit system to promote maximization of resources and minimization of lost charges.
8. Provides nursing care and sets priorities based on the written patient care plan.
9. Implements clinical and technical aspects of care in accordance with established policies and procedures. Intervenes with proper technique, appropriate for the patient's age and stage of development to include, neonate, infant, adolescent, adult and geriatric, following appropriate procedures and precautions to meet individual needs of patients.
10. Implements medical plan of care through administering prescribed medications and appropriate intervention with physician's orders.
11. Initiates and participates in appropriate patient/family teaching.
12. Respects dignity and confidentiality of patient, serving as an advocate as necessary.
13. Provides emotional support to patients, families, peers, and other health care team members.
14. Functions within the limits of the Georgia Nurse Practice Act, Hospital and Nursing Department philosophy, policies and procedures and standards of care. Provides care and demonstrates skills comparable to peers with similar training and experience functioning under similar circumstances. Consults with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Administrative representative as necessary.
15. According to policy, monitors narcotics and controlled substances appropriately.
16. When performing patient care activities, utilizes body substance isolation and appropriate infection control measures.
17. Reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of intervention and implementation of the care plan, and communicates information to the appropriate people.
18. Evaluates and responds appropriately to changes in the patient's condition and/or behavior.
19. Reviews and revises the care plan to meet the changing needs of the patients
20. Documents unit based protocols according to established policies, procedures,(i.e. patient charges, unusual occurrences, patient call backs, and Pyxis).
21. Participates in continuing education programs as required.

Marginal Job Duties:
1. Performs other duties as assigned.
2. Acts as a resource person regarding patient care, area of nursing expertise, orientation and teaching of staff.
3. Participates in and supports research and/or performance improvement program and activities; also participates in nursing committees and other activities which promote the growth and development of nursing and/or patient care

Education and Formal Training:
1. Graduate of an accredited school/ college of nursing
2. Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia
3. Current Certification in ACLS.

Work Experience:
1. Approximately 1-2 years on-the-job experience necessary in order to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of unit and departmental policies and procedures, and to fulfill established quality and quantity standards for the job.
2. Experience in Critical Care, Telemetry. or ED preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
1. Professional Knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited School of Nursing in order to be eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse.
2. Effective interpersonal skills and tact necessary in order to interact and comfort patients and their families, and maintain effective contacts with a variety of Hospital personnel, medical staff and community agencies/organizations.
3. Analytical skills necessary in order to prepare nursing care plans, implement effective nursing care and develop solutions to problems concerning patient's mental or physical well-being.
4. Considerable decision-making skills and judgment in order to carefully analyze, plan, interpret, and coordinate patient care unit activities for optimum outcomes.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
1. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail when planning and performing professional nursing care, resolving patient care problems and dealing with patients and their families, the medical staff and other health care team members often during stressful situations.
2. Ability to stand up and walk for majority of work time, lift and position patients and move portable equipment.>
3. Occasional exposure to infectious specimens, radiation or other hazardous material but potential for personal harm is limited when proper safety and infection control precautions are followed.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:

Reports To: Radiology Manager
Positions Supervised: Oversees the work of other RN's at times, and Radiology personnel by assigning work, signing off records, etc... to assure patient care needs are met, physicians orders are implemented, and that Radiology operates efficiently.
