DESCRIPTION: In this position, you'll direct or coordinate operations of this specific section of the Pathology Department and assure adherence to the standards required for its accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO), Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act (CLIA), as well as compliance with standards of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). You'll supervise all employees in the section and be accountable for cost control, staffing and discipline. Responsibilities: • Managing personnel, which includes interviewing, work allocation, orientation and training, staff development, problem resolution, evaluating performance, making recommendations for personnel actions and motivating employees to achieve peak performance. o Carries responsibility for his/her employee's output and conduct. • Understanding of laboratory methods and knowledge of pathological processes with correlation of disease states and test results. o Reviewing and analyzing section activities and data to improve operations and utilization of services. • Maintains compliance with standards set forth by accrediting agencies: CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, AABB, FDA and CMS. o Developing and implementing policies and procedures for the Section and verifies annual review of all policies and procedures. • Preparing an annual expense budget for the Section, adhering to the budget, monitoring expenditures and justifying significant variances. o Anticipating and evaluating the need for, and recommending, new methods, instrumentation or technology for the Section. • Overseeing quality control/assurance programs related to laboratory test methodology, equipment and supplies; understanding, participating and applying Continuous Quality Improvement. • Developing goals for the Section and following through on meeting these goals in a timely manner. o Managing projects to include developing a plan, coordinating necessary resources, setting project timelines, keeping Director informed of progress and completing project within established time limits. • Adhering to the MHS Code of Conduct and demonstrating ethical behavior as expected by our patients, colleagues and the community. o Understanding the personal obligation to report any activity that appears to violate applicable laws, rules regulations or the Code of Conduct itself. • Completing other duties as assigned. REQUIREMENTS: Requirements include: • Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree is preferred. • Must possess one of the following certifications: MT (ASCP), CLS (NCA), MT (AAB), HT (ASCP), OR HTL (ASCP). • Must have at least five years' full-time experience in a clinical laboratory with proven leadership, communication and project management across departments.
