The Medical Center of Aurora is part of HealthONE, the largest healthcare system in the Denver area. The Medical Center of Aurora has received numerous awards for its heart and vascular services. It is the only hospital in Colorado with a Level 1 Cardiac Center and, in 2005, the hospital was designated a 'Cardiovascular Center for Excellence' by its parent company, HCA. Only four of HCA's 170 hospitals received the award. The hospital's Cardiac Alert Program, a program designed to train and equip first responders to more quickly and accurately detect and treat heart attacks, has served as a model for heart programs across the country. Description The Cardiovascular CV Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) exemplifies professional nursing practice through expert education, consultation, research, practice and management/leadership activities. The CV CNS is a leading nurse expert in cardiovascular care across al setting, and acts as a resource for, support to, and leader of cardiovascular resources within the hospital. In a collaborative manner, the CV CNS leads in the design, implementation, and evaluation of new programs, projects, and systems regarding cardiovascular care. S/he participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of the education plan for employees in all CV settings (Med/Tele, PCU, ICU and others). The CV CNS, in conjunction with the other members of the CV team (including the CV Coach), facilitates and coordinates the planning, implementation and evaluation of the competency program for the cardiovascular nurse in all CV settings. S/he is a champion for the utilization and implementation of clinical research and clinical pathways within the specialty. The CV CNS provides consultation and education to students, staff, and other healthcare providers including serving as liaison to cardiovascular physicians. When need arises, will perform other duties as assigned by Director. Qualifications Position Requirements Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current licensure in the State of Colorado as a Registered Nurse BLS ACLS Certification by the State of Colorado as a Clinical Nurse Specialist CNS CCRN preferred; required after 1 year in position. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing MSN as a Clinical Nurse Specialist required; specialty area in Acute and Critical Care or similar required. Experience: Minimum of two years clinical nursing experience in CV services; some critical care experience preferred. One year of experience in CNS or related role preferred. By working and living in Colorado, you can enjoy over 300 days of sunshine per year and less than 15' of precipitation annually. The average high temperature in the winter is nearly 50 degrees -- in the summer, only 85. Such great weather means you can spend time skiing, hiking, biking, or camping.
