Description:
Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is seeking a
full-time Physician Assistant.
The successful candidate will participate in a very active leukemia clinical practice that is fully integrated within a large and growing clinical and translational research program. Interest and expertise in the conduct of clinical trials with an interest in hematological malignancies is desired. The Physician Assistant is responsible for assisting the Program attending physicians in the medical management patients with leukemia and related disorders and will develop expert knowledge in the medical complications unique to these diseases. In addition, the PA will work closely with the physician and nursing staff in developing and coordinating a plan of care designed to meet the physical, psychological and social needs of patients and their families. This position will practice primarily in the ambulatory setting, but will collaborate with and support the inpatient oncology physician and PA teams as needed. Works collaboratively with program nurses and infusions room nurses to assist in the care of patients, including symptom management, evaluations, prescription writing, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies for review by supervising MD. Performs procedures in accordance with PA scope of practice, including but not limited to bone marrow aspirate and biopsy; lumbar puncture; skin biopsy; PICC line removal; bone marrow harvest. Assists in the coordination of consultation of other sub-specialists involved in the care of patients. Provides education to patients and families. Documents in medical record as appropriate and communicates observations/findings to attending physicians. Monitors environment of care and complies with regulatory agency standards. Graduate of AAPA/NCCPA accredited Physician Assistant Studies program. Holds NCCPA Board certification. Licensure as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
