Applications are invited for a unique comprehensive
oral and head and neck oncology fellowship. An opportunity
to gain significant experience in head and neck oncologic
surgery in two major academic centers in New York City
and Cochin, India.
At the end of the training the candidates will have opportunity to gain practical experience in all aspects of head and neck oncology including ablative and reconstructive surgery. Duration: One year Start date: July 1, 2008 Location: - New York University Medical Center, New York - Head and Neck Institute, AIMS Hospital Cochin, India Course Outline: Six months of the training will be at New York University affiliated hospitals. During this period the candidate will be involved in the comprehensive care of head and neck cancer- ablative surgery, reconstructive surgery, radiation oncology and medical oncology. In addition the candidate will undergo a laboratory course in microvascular surgery. The training will be under the guidance of Dr. David Hirsch DDS, MD (Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) and will include extensive experience in ablative surgery and microvascular surgery. The second half of the training will be at head and neck institute of Amrita Institute of medical sciences, Cochin, India. This service, which manages over 1000 head and neck cancers a year with a very modern infrastructure, offers an ideal opportunity to augment practical clinical experience. The emphasis of this part of the training will be on management of complex head and neck cancer and microvascular reconstructive surgery. The candidates also will have opportunity to gain experience in skull base surgery and minimally invasive endoscopic head and neck surgery. Dr. M. Abraham Kuriakose will be the program director of the AIMS portion of the program. This is truly a very special opportunity. This area of Southern India, specifically AIMS treats one of the world's largest head and neck cancer populations. The team is composed of several surgeons who have extensive head and neck training in both The US and UK.
