The purpose of this position is to perform auditing and monitoring to ensure that accurate clinical information and coded data exists for maximum reimbursement and data base validity. This position is also responsible for contributing to the educational programs for Health Information Management Coders and to assist with HIM coding compliance functions. Individual will exhibit application of a thorough understanding of the conventions, principals, and applications of the ICD-9-CM and CPT coding systems as well as their use in the designation of diagnostic related groupings (DRGs) through a standard test given to all applicants. Individual will also be required to demonstrate the ability to function as an auditor by reviewing coded medical records and develop recommendations based on those findings, as well as the following: - Credentialing and certification as a CCS (Certified Coding Specialist). RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) credentialing is preferred. - Extensive knowledge of ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding principles and guidelines are required as well as extensive knowledge of DRG and APC and other coding and grouping algorithms. Some travel is also required. - Possesses leadership, analytical, and interpersonal skills. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with a working knowledge of word processing and encoding systems. - Travel to Intermountain facilities required with limited overnight travel.
