Facilitate and assist in root cause analyses
for designated sentinel, serious preventable adverse
and near-miss events.
Description Assists the Director of Risk Management in the oversight of the clinical risk management program, including the functions of clinical risk management, claims management, program administration, medical record reviews, Root Cause Analyzes (RCA's), compliance with National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) and risk management education in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization. Assist in functions of the department with patient safety as the primary goal, in particular compliance with NPSG. Assist as necessary with risk initiatives to aide in successful completion of the Premium Credit Programs. Assist with medical record reviews for patient/family complaints. Risk Management - Daily review, analysis and follow up of occurrence reports, forwarding to managers/directors for follow up; Maintain the Meditech R/M module dictionary; Print reports for analysis; Prepare and maintain organization of claim files; Scheduling appointments and maintain all calendars; Maintain minutes of meetings including agenda, handouts, and reminders; Supply management and plan inventory needs; and step in as an alternate for Risk Director as needed for witness interviews and depositions. Participate in development and evaluation of professional practice through hospital committees / special projects and attendance at staff meetings. Manage NPSG compliance. Claims Administration - Identifies those occurrences that are potentially compensable events, and alerts Risk Director. Under the direction of the Risk Director, collect documents responsive to discovery requests. Assists in the scheduling of witnesses for deposition/discovery interviews. Maintains case files for ongoing and potential litigation. Regulatory Compliance - collaborate, as needed, with the Ethics and Compliance Office and the VP of Quality to ensure compliance with statutory mandates, regulatory requirements and accreditation standards of professional organizations. Risk Management Education - Assist in the development of educational programs for employees, medical staff and board members based on analyses of risk assessments, historical and concurrent occurrence and claims data, and national trends. Conduct risk management orientation for new employees. Professional Developments - Maintains current knowledge and education in risk management and associated areas by attending HCI education conferences, reading RISKWATCH and other educational materials, pursuing ATLAS information and Internet sites, and other pertinent information and research. Committee Responsibilities - Serves as member of select committees as a representative of the risk management program. Qualifications EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: - Current RN License - Minimum of 5 years clinical healthcare experience - Minimum of 2 years experience in clinical risk or quality management preferred. - Analytical orientation with excellent skills in problem solving, communication, conflict resolution, negotiation, organization, data management and statistical trending. - Demonstrated fiscal accountability. Requires frequent walking from department to department: requires sitting at a work-station or desk; requires standing; work may include occasional pushing and/or pulling, lifting, and carrying objects weighing up to 20 lb., such as files, documents and computer printouts. Work requires finger dexterity and eye hand coordination to operate a computer keyboard at a moderate skill level. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: Reads and writes Basic English Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a high degree of professionalism and competence in dealing with a variety of individuals including physicians, attorneys, administrators and company or industry representatives. Effective problem solving skills. Experience in conference and meeting planning. Ability to work under pressure and deadlines. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
