Job Details: HIMS Coder II - Neurosurgery Clinic

Company: Lakeland Regional Medical Center – Lakeland Regional Medical Center is a private, non-profit facility that has served Lakeland and surrounding Central Florida communities for more than 80 years.

Description: Works under the supervision of the Trauma Services Manager. Is capable of coding proficiently, outpatient records at the stated minimum performance levels.

General Summary:
Analyzes and interprets medical information in the medical record and assigns the correct ICD-9-CM or CPT or E/M code to the diagnoses/procedures of outpatient medical records according to established coding guidelines. Communicates with physicians to obtain optimal documentation to meet coding and compliance standards. Enters code numbers and other clinical data into the computerized patient abstract for insurance billing, statistical, and research purposes.

Individual must complete their CCS-P or CPC certification within two years of employment.

Must identify opportunities for and contribute to the improvement of quality, safety and cost, as well as patient, customer, and employee satisfaction. May perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge And Skills:
-Required: Computer experience, especially with computerized encoder products. Good interpersonal skills and communication skills in dealing with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

Education:
-Required: Position requires applicant to have graduated from a 2 year college level program for Coding (includes medical terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, coding ICD9, CPT, E/M); RHIT/RHIA or eligible preferred. CCS-P or CPC credentialing required within two years of employment.

Experience:
-Required: 1-2 years acute care hospital coding experience within a HIMS Department or multi-specialty physician clinic preferred.
