OVERALL RESPONSIBLITIES:
The Coding Consultant is responsible for DRG rules and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Developing interface between hospitals and Clurichaun.
• Writing logic rules for DRG product.
• Demonstrates the ability to appropriately use coding principles to code to the highest specificity
using ICD-9 CM coding books as well as other industry wide manuals that are recognized by
American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reviews bulletins, newsletters, and periodicals, and attends workshops to stay abreast of current issues, trends, and changes in the laws and regulations governing medical ICD-9 CM coding and documentation.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (cont'd):
• Understand and adhere to The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
• Computer literate with working knowledge of such programs as Word, Excel, Outlook, ability to use the Internet.

PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
• Works closely with Manager in areas of position responsibility.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
• Certified Coding Specialist designation (CCS) issued by the American Health Information Management Association; or,
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Professional Coder Apprentice (CPC-A).
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) with 6 months experience coding ICD-9 CM.

EXPERIENCE:
• Certified Professional Coder Apprentice (CPC-A) must have at least 6 months experience with Hospital Coding setting.
• Preferably has directed hospital coding department.
