The BC Cancer Agency (BCCA) is committed to reducing the incidence of cancer, reducing the mortality from cancer, and improving the quality of life of those living with cancer. It provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia by working with community partners to deliver a range of cancer services, including prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation and palliative care. It operates four regional cancer centres in the Fraser Valley, Kelowna, Vancouver and Vancouver Island, with a fifth centre opening in Abbotsford in summer 2008 and a sixth centre scheduled to open in Prince George in 2012. PET Technologists - Casual Opportunities BC Cancer Agency - Vancouver Centre As part of our detail-oriented team environment, you will perform various PET imaging procedures including scanning and image processing for patients of all ages. This will encompass general patient care duties (taking vital signs, starting IV lines and checking blood glucose levels), providing patient radiotracer injections and system management pertaining to the digital imaging storage and distribution network within an assigned area. You will also play a significant role in helping to maintain and organize various procedural documents and monitoring equipment performance by reporting any operating deficiencies. Along with current registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (Nuclear Medicine), you have at least 3 years' recent experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist and completion of formal PET educational courses or equivalent work experience. You are also equipped with a broad knowledge of the theory and practice of Nuclear Medicine procedures, radio pharmacy dispensing and radiation safety. A basic understanding of PET cameras and computer applications and research processes/methodologies is required. You also possess strong computer, organizational and problem solving skills as well as the ability to communicate effectively with patients and all levels of staff, verbally and in writing. A current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate - Basic Life Support (BCLS) level is also required.
