Responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, research involvement, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership and patient management across the continuum from preventative, acute care through discharge. A Nurse Practitioner's practice incorporates both independent decision making abilities and collaboration with the board certified/eligible physician to provide expert care to the patients. Responsible for the planning and coordination of all aspects of the work up and care for the Cardio Thoracic patients referred for pre heart transplant evaluation and post heart transplant management, and patients referred for Ventricular Assist Device placement throughout the continuum of services - from initial referral to follow-up care. Develops, coordinates, implements and evaluates educational programs/projects for patients, personnel and the community. Collects/documents data to meet clinical, financial and regulatory requirements. Participates in the development of guidelines, protocols, pathways and other performance improvement activities. Participates in research activities. Serves as a patient advocate throughout the care process. Represents the medical center at regional and national meetings/conferences. The Nurse Practitioner may have on call responsibilities. This is a FULL TIME position. Hours: 8:00 a.m - 5:00 p.m. Requirements/Experience: Master of Nursing Degree required. Current State of California Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner License. Graduate of an accredited Nurse practitioner program approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing as defined in Section 1482, Nurse Practice Act, Business and Professional Code. National Certification or eligibility for certification as a Nurse Practitioner. Current NP Furnishing License/DEA or eligibility Full command (verbal and written) of the English language. Demonstrates a commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and healthcare colleagues. Minimum of 2 (two) years acute hospital experience. ICU preferred. Physical Demands: Perceptive acuity and physical ability to perform all direct and indirect patient care functions including walking, sitting, standing, bending and light lifting required.
