Memorial Medical Center, located in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, is the base training site. MMC is an ACS designated Level I Trauma Center with two medical helicopters. Its team serves more than 10 counties, with emergency volume over 70,000 patient visits, 2,800 pediatric visits and a 25% admission rate. The scope and depth of its services makes it comparable to major urban medical centers with one important difference - it is located in a safe and scenic community known for its affordable housing, good schools and short commutes. The objective of the Program in Emergency Medicine is to prepare graduates for AOBEM certification in emergency medicine. The curriculum will support this goal, integrating an emergency medicine education with disaster strategies and special knowledge areas that will be needed as emergency care changes in response to mass care, or with respect to special terrorist or naturally occurring hazards.
