The Occupational Health & Safety Ergonomist participates in the design and implementation of systems that are compatible with the needs, abilities, and limitations of employees, in order to- optimize comfort and efficiency, reduce musculoskeletal risk and incidence of injury, reduce absenteeism and facilitate safe return to work and accommodation of worker’s with temporary/permanent disabilities. By conducting workplace risk assessments, physical demands analyses, and job compatibility reviews, the Ergonomist identifies areas for improvement and modification, and recommends practical solutions for implementation. Individual and group education is a key component in achieving ergonomic effectiveness and preventing musculoskeletal injury. QUALIFICATIONS: - Undergraduate degree in a related discipline (Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, Human Factors Engineering, Physical or Occupational Therapy). - Minimum of 3-5 years experience in the field of ergonomics. - Experience in the health care field and client handling an asset. - Strong assessment & analytical skills. - Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and convincingly with a variety of individuals/groups. - Proven ability to problem solve complex and multi-faceted problems. - Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to prepare and deliver presentations. - Flexibility and ability to prioritize work schedule based on shifting needs. - Ability to be accountable for decisions, maintain professional standards, and comply with other relevant legislation and standards. - Ergonomic theory & principles, anthropometrics, measurement/assessment tools. - Member of ACE (Association of Canadian Ergonomists). - CCPE (Canadian Certified Professional Ergonomist) OR CPE (Certification in Professional Ergonomics). - Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly.
