The University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson is seeking additional gastroenterology colleagues for their growing gastroenterology division. This is an ideal clinician-educator role whether you're already experienced in an academic medical center or would like to explore all that an academic setting can offer you. The Successful Candidate: -- BC/BE in Gastroenterology -- Both general, procedural gastroenterologists and those with subspecialty skills, such as hepatology, transplants, inflammatory bowel disease, GI cancer, and interventional billiary, are welcome -- Will have an interest in teaching both internal medicine residents and gastroenterology fellows The Practice Opportunity: -- Join three gastroenterologists and be a part of the division's continuing growth -- Enjoy support from your colleagues and administration as you develop the practice you've always wanted - you'll have the freedom to pursue your special interests while also providing top-notch general gastroenterology care -- Opportunity for research exists, if desired -- Look forward to call 1:4 with fellows taking first call -- Benefit from sovereign immunity as a state employee with a cap on malpractice exposure under a new tort claims act -- Faculty appointment at the University of Mississippi School of Medicine will be considered at the assistant, associate, and full professor level and will be commensurate with experience -- Joint appointment at G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center is available You'll be based at the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMC), which is the only academic medical center in Mississippi and the newest hospital in the state. Therefore, it is well funded, well supported, and highly respected in the region as the preferred resource for tertiary care, including that offered at its Level I trauma center. UMC is a 700+ bed, academic medical center, located on a seven hospital campus, with a history of excellence in teaching, research, and patient care. Dr. Tom Abell, Division Director for Gastroenterology, is a nationally known expert, with NIH grant support, in motility disorders. In addition, Chairman of Medicine, Dr. Richard deShazo is widely known and respected and has served as chairman at UMC for ten years. He has also served as president of the Association of Professors of Medicine and on the boards of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Medical Specialists. The current President of the American Heart Association, Daniel W. Jones, M.D., is the Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs and Dean of the School of Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. In fact, Dr. Guyton, author of Textbook of Medical Physiology, taught at the University of Mississippi for many years and has personally educated many of the UMC physicians.
