The Coding Services Manager has the overall responsibility for the efficiency and effectiveness of all coding / abstracting / grouping processes for both Inpatient and Outpatient coding services. Serve as a key participant in the Revenue Cycle at PPH. Responsible for providing departmental guidance and leadership to Coding Team Leads and staff with coder/abstractor training, compliance audits, regulatory guidance, daily work distribution, and monitoring of accounts receivable issues related to coding. Indirect oversight responsibility for any coding that is performed in decentralized areas of PPH. Work closely with personnel from Patient Financial Services to resolve unbilled account issues and to identify and resolve obstacles and inefficiencies that delay timely coding and abstracting processes across the Revenue Cycle. Work closely with members of the medical staff to ensure documentation is complete for accurate and timely coding of records. Direct oversight for coding of diagnoses and procedures that are performed for inpatient, outpatient and Emergency Department encounters. Responsible to ensure that the departmental performance objectives are attained, to include capturing co-morbidities and complications, procedure code modifiers, appropriate sequencing, assigning DRG's, and APR-DRG's and MS-DRG’s. Responsible to ensure that systems, processes and reports are optimized so that data specific to each visit is accurately abstracted for the revenue cycle, research, OSHPD, data comparison studies, and medical record reviews. In addition to coding/abstracting and grouping, also assists with the Hospital Revenue Cycle process by overseeing the charge capture process for patients seen in the Emergency Department and by proactively identifying inefficient upstream processes and systems that have a detrimental effect on DNFB. Provides daily leadership for both in-house and outsourced departmental personnel and will assist in recruiting, training and personnel development within the department. Performs other duties as assigned. Follows PPH rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws, and standards. Carries out the mission, vision, values, and quality commitment of PPH. Minimum Education: Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management or related Healthcare field. Preferred Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management or related Healthcare field. Minimum Experience: 5 years of inpatient coding experience and 3 years of outpatient coding experience. Preferred Experience: 5 years of inpatient coding experience and 3 years of outpatient coding experience; 5 years of progressive management experience in Healthcare. Comprehensive knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security regulations. Valid California Drivers License. Certification: RHIT (Registered Heath Information Technician) or RHIA (Registered Health Information Administrator) and a member in good standing with the AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association).
