The BC Cancer Agency (BCCA) is committed to reducing the incidence of cancer, reducing the mortality from cancer, and improving the quality of life of those living with cancer. It provides a comprehensive cancer control program for the people of British Columbia by working with community partners to deliver a range of cancer services, including prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment, research, education, supportive care, rehabilitation and palliative care. It operates four regional cancer centres in the Fraser Valley, Kelowna, Vancouver and Vancouver Island, with a fifth centre opening in Abbotsford in summer 2008 and a sixth centre scheduled to open in Prince George in 2012. The BC Cancer Research Centre conducts research into the causes and cures for cancer. Administrative Assistant Deeley Research Centre Regular Full-time Victoria, BC As a self-starter in an environment of multiple priorities, you will provide administrative support and secretarial support to the Director, DRC and the DRC Research Operations Leader, as well as to other DRC staff. This will include performing a variety of secretarial duties, such as screening and routing correspondence, managing calendars and transcribing various documents and meeting minutes. You will also perform a variety of reception duties and coordinate meetings, workshops and educational events. Assisting in the preparation and submission of grant proposals, you will maintain a database of grants and agreements, and maintain an up-to-date list of potential funding opportunities. As well, you will create and maintain lab and office filing systems, and maintain lab and office supplies. You have a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to completion of Grade 12 supplemented by completion of a recognized secretarial course and three to five years of recent related experience. Proficient with computers, you know how to use office software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as type 60 words per minute. Your strong communication skills allow you to effectively liaise with various departments and all levels of staff. Familiar with scientific and medical terminology, you have strong research skills.
