Description:
Physician Assistant needed for busy 6-physician
Orthopaedic group. NCCPA Certified or eligible. Orthopaedic
experience preferred. Salary commensurate with experience.
Required
to assume call responsibilities with the physicians,
during the week and on weekends/holidays, on a rotational
basis. Assist in surgical procedures in the operating
room and outpatient surgery center, to include positioning
and prepping the patient pre-operatively. Perform History
& Physical assessments for pre-operative patients.
May be requested by physician to perform emergency
room consultations.
Assess and treat patients
in the office setting. Accommodate patients requiring
immediate care (i.e., 'stat' work-ins). Apply casts/splints.
Order x-rays, tests or procedures as indicated. Administer
joint injections. Provide patient education. Respond
to incoming patient phone calls, including but not
limited to: medication refills, questions about treatment,
post-operative issues, etc.
Prescribe medication
to the extent permitted by Virginia state law. Appropriate
and timely documentation/dictation, keeping in compliance
with current coding and documentation rules. [Other

Typical Physical Demands: Position requires
full range of body motion including handling and lifting
patients, standing/walking for long periods of time,
manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Employee will occasionally be asked to lift and carry
items in excess of 50 pounds. Normal visual acuity
and hearing are required. Employee will work under
stressful conditions, and work irregular, long hours.
The number of hours required within any work week is
essentially to mirror the amount of work required to
handle the patient caseload, which may vary from week
to week. Employee will be exposed to bodily fluids
on a regular basis.
