Job Details: Biomed Equipment Intern

 

Company: Seton Family of Hospitals – Our expanding network comprised of eight acute-care hospitals, three community health centers and four specialty care centers allows for numerous opportunities for growth for our associates.

Location: Austin, Texas
Description: Days - 8hr
1. Performs comprehensive repairs, installations and performance verification inspections including precise calibration adjustments and electrical safety analysis on therapeutic, diagnostic, analytical and specialty equipment. '
2. Repairs minor/major clinical equipment to regulatory and manufacturer's specifications or guidelines such as ECRI. Performs Preventive Maintenance Inspections on incoming and existing medical equipment to ensure compliance with JCAHO guidelines and the 'Medical Equipment Management Plan' found within the Environment of Care Policies/Procedures.
'3. Willingly accepts additional responsibility and increased proficiency with equipment as it is assigned. Receives guidance, orientation, and exposure to all aspects of typical Biomedical Technician duties and responsibilities from the Biomedical Services Director and Senior Technicians. '
'4. Ensures the accuracy and integrity of the equipment database to include the inventory of medical devices, including trial/evaluation, rental/loaner equipment in addition to permanently assigned equipment inventory, and PM schedules, nomenclature and service history. '
5. Implements device recalls and safety alerts on all medical equipment as assigned by the Biomedical Services Director.
'6. Develops and displays a professional and courteous demeanor throughout the performance of duties, demonstrating an approach of customer service, high quality results and customer satisfaction such as interacting with users making recommendations related to equipment purchases, equipment disposition, service contracts, training and education, repairs, and service history. '
7. Performs comprehensive documentation of all corrective actions taken while performing any essential repairs or services by becoming proficient with department computer system.

Minimum Qualifications
High School or GED equivalent is required. Must have completed or be in the process of completing an Associates of Applied Science degree in Biomedical Electronics or equivalent military Biomedical Training Certification.

Skills
Knowledge Required:
Effective knowledge of electronics and electricity.
Effective understanding of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
Effective knowledge of computers and databases.
Effective knowledge of technical troubleshooting/repair techniques.

Expertise Required:
Ability to read and interpret complex schematics, diagrams, specifications and illustrative drawings.
Ability to work in technical situations requiring moderate troubleshooting skills.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to operate in a moderately stressful hospital environment.'
