Position Overview

The Director of the Medical Specialty Unit is accountable for the overall leadership of the 48-bed medical specialty unit caring for pulmonary, oncology, renal and GI patients within a holistic, patient safety focused organization. Responsibilities include practicing within a mature shared governance framework in a highly nurturing, relationship based leadership environment. The director functions as the CEO of his/her own unit known and recognized as a high performing team with excellent Press Ganey patient satisfaction scores in a soon-to be designated Magnet organization. The position leads approximately 68 employees and reports to the Chief Nursing Officer.

Qualified candidates will be registered nurses with at least five years of clinical experience and three years of experience as a director. Ideally, individuals will have excellent interpersonal communication skills; a relationship based leadership style, high emotional intelligence, and demonstrated experience creating high-performing teams. Additionally, successful candidates will thrive on innovation and the drive to continuously improve. A Bachelor's degree in nursing and a Master's degree is required.

This hospital is a 178-bed, non-profit, Joint Commission accredited, general medical and surgical facility. Key services are offered in intensive care, neurology, orthopedics, obstetrics, and emergency care. This hospital has been named as one of the Top 100 Most Wired Hospitals and is awaiting their Magnet certification from the American Nurses' Credentialing Center (ANCC), an affiliate of the American Nurses Association. Additionally, the hospital is also focused on achieving NICHE (Nurses Improving Care of Health System Elders) status with a vision to be a national leader among community-based hospitals within five years.
