Physician Assistant, CardioThoracic Surgery - Functions as a first assistant for the attending physician in the Operating Room during intraoperative procedures. - Obtains and performs physical examinations on patients within our cardiovascular service. - Performs patient assessment as per policies and protocols. - Writes progress notes and orders care modalities daily in accordance with department procedures in collaboration with the attending physician. - Performs procedures as needed in accordance with department procedures and protocols, in collaboration with the attending physician. - Re-evaluates patient immediately when there is a change in patient condition per department procedures and protocols. - Requests consults and ancillary services at the request of the attending as documented in the patient chart. - Interprets and documents results of lab, radiological studies, etc with 100% accuracy according to procedures and protocols. - Notifies attending physician of important findings according to department procedures before the end of the working day. - Attends ancillary staff meetings related to patient care as needed. Requirements: Current certification (or Board Eligible) from NCCPA is required and ACLS provider is desirable. A minimum of two years acute care experience working as a P.A. is preferred. Demonstrated clinical excellence and teaching skills are strongly preferred. Prior experience within a cardiothoracic operating room and intensive care unit is preferred, interest in acute care is required.
