Description: Medical Director Lackey Free Clinic
MISSION STATEMENT
"TO PROVIDE SKILLED, COMPASSIONATE HEALTH CARE AND COUNSELING TO THE MEDICALLY DISADVANTAGED IN A MANNER THAT HONORS THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST."

Position Summary:
Works typically three and one half days as the Director, responsible for the Medical operations of the Clinic to include supervision of Nurse Practitioners, Physician assistants, Pharmacist, Dentist, Volunteer Physicians, and Joint supervision of Clinical Coordinator. Responsibility for the development of clinical protocols, quality assessment processes, and acquisition of medical equipment. Has a close working relationship with the Executive Director. The Medical Director is encouraged to work closely with the Executive Director in order to accomplish the Mission of the organization.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Successful completion of a residency program in primary care medicine (Family Practice, Internal Medicine, or Emergency Medicine [preferred] as approved by the respective U.S. Acadamies of each specialty). Graduation from medical school with a M.D. or D.O. degree. Must be eligible for membership in the local branch of the VA medical society.

CERTIFICATION:
Must be at least Board Eligible or Board Certified in primary care specialty, Must be a licensed physician in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

EXPERIENCE:
Previous experience, as a Medical Director preferred. Previous experience with outpatient primary or emergency care preferred.

VOLUNTARY TERMINATION NOTICE:
12 Weeks mandatory

SUPERVISORY CONTROL:
Incumbent must have a high level of independence accomplishing the responsibilities of the position. Goals, priorities, and major projects are reviewed and discussed on an on-going basis with the Executive Director.

ESSENTIAL TECHNICAL/MOTOR SKILLS:
The ability to verbally communicate and document in patient charts is required. The ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a very effective manner.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires driving, walking, prolonged sitting and the ability to reach, bend, and lift a maximum of 30 pounds.

ESSENTIAL MENTAL ABILITIES:
Long term and short term memory required for the analysis of patients in the rehab setting. Long term and short term memory required for the delivery of effective presentations to patients, staff, potential donors, media, other providers and members of Community agencies.

ESSENTIAL SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
The position requires sight and hearing in order to fulfill the assessment of patients in the clinic setting.

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:
Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Patient Care: Responsible for direct patient care in most clinics; Quality Assurance activities; review and approval of scheduled Radiological and consultative requests; review and update formulary with Head Pharmacist.
Administrative: Responsible for scheduling providers for walk-in clinics; supervision and regular meetings with physician extenders-nurse practitioners and physician assistants; attend all staff and Board meetings monthly; frequent meetings and consultation with Executive Director, to include assistance with Budget preparation; Maintaining and oversight of practice standards for Clinic. Community marketing; Volunteer provider recruitment and orientation; some speaking engagements at civic organizations and churches re: Mission, Vision and operation of Lackey Free Clinic. Operations: Supervisory responsibility for ordering of medical equipment and supplies, as well medical supply maintenance by Nursing.

Criteria Based Performance Standards

70% PATIENT CARE
1. Provides direct patient care in most clinics.
2. Directs Quality Assurance activities.
3. Review and approval of Imaging and Consultative requests.
4. Review and update Formulary with Head Pharmacist.

15% ADMINISTRATIVE
1. Scheduling providers for walk-in clinics
2. Supervision and regular meetings with physician extenders (NP, PA).
3. Attend all staff and Board meetings.
4. Frequent meetings and consultation with Executive Director.
5. Assist ED in budget preparation.
6. Maintain oversight of Clinic Practice Standards
7. Participate in Strategic Planning and Development processes.
8. Other duties as assigned by the Board.

10% COMMUNITY MARKETING
1. Provide volunteer provider recruitment and training.
2. Speak at civic organizations, churches, and etc. re: Mission, Vision and operation at Lackey Free Clinic.

5% OPERATIONS
1. Assume supervisory responsibility over Nursing for medical equipment and supply ordering and maintenance.
