Job Details: Clinical Fellowship in Laryngology Bronchoesophagology (LBE)

Description: The Division of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham proudly announces a new one-year fellowship in Laryngology Bronchoesophagology.
The fellowship will include opportunities for cross training with Pulmonology and Gastroenterology. Research opportunities will also be provided. The clinical experience will include instruction in trans-oral laser surgery of benign and malignant disease, open and trans oral airway reconstruction, and all forms of minimally invasive office care. Professional voice care, the evaluation of dysphagia, and the diagnosis and medical management of laryngopharyngeal extra-esophageal reflux disease will also be taught.

The position will be open as of July 1st, 2009 and last one year. Board certified and board eligible graduates of US training in otolaryngology head and neck surgery will be considered.

Care Techniques and Surgical Training to be offered:
Office Techniques:
-Trans-nasal Esophagoscopy
-Trans-nasal and Trans-stomal Bronchoscopy
- Laryngoscopy with therapeutic injection and biopsy
- Laryngeal Stroboscopy
- Esophageal Motility and pH-metry
- FEES and FEESST
- Office Laser Surgery

Operative Trans-oral Laser Microsurgery of Benign and Malignant Disease Techniques:
-Therapeutic Bronchoscopy with Dilation and Debridement
- Open and Trans-oral Laryngoplasty and Tracheoplasty
- Micro-Laryngeal Phonosurgery
- Open Phonosurgery including Medialization Laryngoplasty, Arytenoid Adduction and other forms of Laryngeal Framework Surgery
- Segmental Tracheal and Crico-Tracheal Resection with Primary Reanastomosis
- Bedside Airway Surgery including Percutaneous Tracheostomy and Gastrostomy
