Description: NYU Langone Medical Center is one of the nation's premier centers of excellence in health care, biomedical research and medical education.
Located in the heart of New York City, the Medical Center consists of the NYU School of Medicine and the three hospitals of NYU Hospitals Center: Tisch Hospital, Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine and NYU Hospital for Joint Diseases. Currently, we are recruiting for a Chief Medical Information Officer who can focus on the on-going development of an integrated information systems solution for the Medical Center.

These systems serve both inpatient and ambulatory, to process, store and distribute clinical, financial, administrative and research data. The next generation of this integration will support the electronic medical records, clinical outcomes and analysis, quality improvement studies, clinical content development, clinical workflow, physician reporting and management analysis.

In this role you will:
• Lead the establishment of an enterprise clinical system architecture and set of priorities, aligned with the technical and clinical goals of NYULMC.

• Provide physician input and leadership to help direct the planning, design, development and implementation of an integrated clinical information system including hospital based CPOE, ambulatory EMR, nurse and physician documentation, and effective electronic workflow resulting in a paperless medical record.
• Work to design and implement systems supporting patient care, education and research activities.

• Lead design of clinical pathway models with physician, nursing and administrative leadership, and assist in modification of these models to gain maximum efficacy and support for patient care and research protocols.

• Chair clinical committees to provide broad-based input into the design of the electronic patient care environment.

• Lead and/or facilitate clinician advisory groups in the design of clinical systems to support excellence in patient care, education and research. Engages patient care providers with varying roles including physicians, nursing practitioners, nursing staff, ancillary department personnel, as well as medical records and other health information professionals to contribute to the development and use of the clinical information professionals use to a "best in practice" clinical information system in the electronic patient care environment.

• Build relationships with physicians to gain support of IT initiatives.

• Participate in front line activities including:
o Work with research in applicable clinical, educational and information technology fields.
o Review medical informatics trends, develop technical and application implementation strategies and assist in the development of strategic plans for clinical information system.
o Lead development and deployment of solutions that cluster information in disease and episodic categories for benchmarking, clinical severity and variance analysis.
o Design and evaluate a collection of data for clinical purposes, including tracking and interpretation of outcomes.
o Educate clinicians on use of clinical systems.
o Time allocated to your clinical practice.


Desired candidates should have:
• Experience with operational management in an IT department that includes experience managing teams and projects.
• Thorough understanding of technical standards and principles of the software development life cycle and systems architecture at the enterprise level.
• A good grasp of clinical work flows in inpatient and outpatient settings, interest in clinical information systems and outcomes measurement.
• The ability to develop flexible, transferable models for pathways of care.
• An understanding of major trends in healthcare and managed care, and familiarity with point-of-care products and medical informatics trends and tools.
• A minimum 5 years' experience in leadership and experience in implementing clinical systems and in the definition and implementation of clinical informatics solutions.
• Experience using Lean Thinking tools and philosophy is desirable.
• Experience with medical informatics -- a degree in medical informatics is desired.
• Master's degree with Business and Information Technology focus would be desired.
• A current license and board certification with a recent or current medical practice in area of specialty.
