An opening is available as of January 1, 2009, in an independent group practice, Pathology Associates of Grand Rapids, partnership track position, for an AP and CP board certified pathologist with expertise in oncologic surgical pathology. Strong experience in hematopathology, lung, or GU pathology is preferred. The practice is based at St. Mary's Health Services, a 300 bed general teaching hospital anchoring a community health care system. The group consists of three pathologists, all with sub-specialty interests, and a certified Pathologist's Assistant. The hospital is a regional cancer hospital (Lack's Cancer Center), has a certified Teaching Hospital Cancer Program, and is a kidney transplant center. The hospital medical staff includes a large number of subspecialty physicians, boasts a complement of residency training programs, and has close ties Michigan State University medical school. The position requires a well-rounded personable individual with polished confidence in surgical pathology, expertise in clinical pathology, and excellent verbal and writing communication skills. Responsibilities include general surgical pathology, cytopathology, clinical pathology, clinical lab management, and conference presentations. Required is a willingness to participate not only in pathology-specific responsibilities but also in broader aspects of hospital and medical staff endeavors. Practice experience is favored but individuals currently in fellowship training may apply. The group provides an excellent package of benefits. Salary is commensurate with experience.
