Today, Odyssey is one of the largest hospice providers in the country, offering end-of-life care and support to thousands of patients and their families across the country each day. Our team of caregivers consist of registered nurses, physicians, home healthcare aides, social workers, chaplains, bereavement counselors and trained volunteers. Patients typically receive our services in their own homes or in nursing homes or assisted living facilities. But we also serve patients in hospitals and, in Odyssey's own freestanding hospice facilities. Medical Social Worker Provides a wide range of psychosocial services to terminally ill patients and their families, including regularly assessing the patient and family psychosocial needs, and Pre-Bereavement/anticipatory grief needs. Implements the Plan of Care provisions to meet their needs, which include: social service goals for alleviating problems, supportive counseling, problem solving, community referrals pre-bereavement and bereavement care. Odyssey's Ideal Candidate will have the following qualifications: • Minimum age requirement
of 18 • Bachelor's degree in
Social Work, Master's degree required. Masters
degree from school accredited by the Council on
Social Work Education required in states as specified • Licensure and/or certification
as required by the State.
• Minimum of two year's
social service experience in a health care setting
or social services agency • Knowledge of and ability
to obtain community resources (information and
referral, state/federal financial programs and
eligibility requirements, etc.) • Compliance with accepted
professional standards and practices • Understands Hospice
philosophy, principles of death/dying • Ability to work in
an interdisciplinary setting
• Valid driver's license
and an automobile that is insured in accordance
with state and/or Odyssey requirements and is in
good working order • Demonstrate excellent
observation, judgment and communication skills.
Ability to provide good written documentation in
a timely manner • Self-directed with
