Assistant Hospital Housekeeping Officer, Environmental Management Service (EMS), shares in a full management relationship with the Chief, EMS. The incumbent is responsible for integrating short, intermediate, and long-range planning that meets the changing dynamics of a highly active, affiliated medical center complex. The incumbent must exercise broad managerial leadership, knowledge, program and technical expertise within the various disciplines of the Service. Incumbent seeks solutions to existing and future challenges, identifies long and short range goals, and formulates proposals relating to environmental healthcare services. Incumbent plans and initiates changes and other improvements or actions after review and approval of Chief, EMS. Incumbent serves as advisor and consultant to Chief, EMS with responsibility for implementing and maintaining an effective and efficient environmental sanitation program, a furniture handling program, a cost efficient laundry, linen, uniform operation, waste management (Regulated Medical Waste and Solid Waste), integrated pest management, and recycling programs. Incumbent will assume all duties and responsibilities delegated by the Chief, EMS. In addition to staff support to Chief, EMS, Incumbent will be involved and play an active role in a wide area of medical center issues and concerns regarding medical center policies, issues, planning and challenges. Incumbent is expected to serve on local, VISN and National Task Forces and Committees representing EMS and healthcare environmental issues. Incumbent is responsible for formulating program policy and plans, organizes, directs staffs, budgets, and coordinates a comprehensive EMS program for this tertiary care, affiliated, research and active medical center. Incumbent has responsibility for assisting and advising the Chief, EMS in making decisions and actions that have substantial impact on program objectives, goals, funding, scheduling, organizational structure and allocation of resources. The incumbent is responsible for the comprehensive planning, direction, and coordination of the full EMS operation, as well as the evaluation of the Medical Center?s EMS programs and functions.
