Cancer Program Specialist

We currently have a full-time opportunity for a Cancer Program Specialist who will be responsible for assisting in the performance of all functions relating to an American College of Surgeon approved cancer program including follow-up, abstracting of cancer cases, tumor board and all other Oncology Data Center functions. Responsibilities will include:

Attend and assist in the preparation of Tumor Boards, and perform appropriate case documentation
Compile specified sections of the ACOS Long-and-Short-Term Patients Care Evaluation (PCE) Studies in accordance with the college guides as determined by the supervisor
Complete other PCE Studies and data requests assigned by supervisor
Complete abstracts in accordance with departmental policy and procedure manual (minimum of 15 abstracts every 40 hours worked)
Identify and abstract all neoplastic cases to be included in the Tumor Registry
Review all pathology reports
Print and review medical record disease index
Initiate and maintain follow-up for all cases in the registry
Contact discharged patients, their families and physicians to maintain follow-up information; maintaining a 90% or greater follow-up rate
Enter all follow-up information into the data base as determined by random review by supervisor
Maintain data quality assurance program
Assist in the correcting of error reports from the quality assurance-physician advisor review, FCDS and Supervisor
Assist (f designated) in preparing quarterly quality assurance report of center activities
Obtain and review all appropriate medical records from Westside Regional Medical Center and Outpatient Surgical Services
Code all demographic and cancer-specific information to meet compliance with the American College of Surgeons (ACOS) and the State of Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS)
Verify treatment and/or procedure given to patients post-discharge by contacting physicians office as determined by random review by superior

Qualified candidates must possess:
Certification or Licensure as a Certified Tumor Register
High school diploma with courses in Medical Terminology, Anatomy, Physiology and Medical Records
Experience in a health care field
Knowledge of American College of Surgeon Standards
Willingness to travel to workshops, seminars and other training programs
Excellent office skills with knowledge of computers
