Clinical Documentation Specialist

JOB PURPOSE:
Facilitate and obtain appropriate and complete physician documentation within the medical record for any clinical conditions and treatment to support the appropriate DRG assignment prior to patient discharge.
ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education:
RN, CCS or other related healthcare professional, is preferred, ICD-9 CM & CPT coding knowledge, CCS Certification Preferred.
2. Experience:
Ability to communicate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team, including physicians, HIM Coders and other allied health care team members. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and the ability to successfully function in a fast paced, service oriented environment is required Experience and usage of computers and ability to learn job specific applications is required.
3. Training:
Must have demonstrated knowledge of DRG reimbursement and AHIMA standards of Ethical Coding and official coding guidelines as well as case mix analysis.
4. Licensure:
CCS certification is preferred or successful completion within two years of employment.
