Job Details: Summary of Position Description
Reporting to the Vice President for Operations, this position provides administrative direction to all aspects of the MMC Neurosciences Institute, leading program development activities, related budget development and operational planning efforts. Works in close collaboration with the Medical Director of the Neuroscience Institute and physicians in neurosurgery, neurology, physiatry, psychiatry, interventional radiology and other specialties to establish neuroscience goals, and to design and carry out major neuroscience program initiatives. Coordinates with nursing administration and patient unit leadership to integrate neuroscience plans with patient care unit initiatives. Works with subordinate data analysis and support staff and, through directly reporting intermediate managers, with clinical staff in EEG and Stroke programs. Work is performed with considerable independence and is evaluated by the Vice President for Operations through reports, discussions and results obtained.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
1. Knowledge of healthcare systems, including but not limited to the organization and financing of healthcare, health policy, process/performance improvement, and healthcare delivery.
2. Knowledge of relevant practice in medical care, patient care, and support systems.
3. Knowledge of, and preferably experience with, process improvement techniques, methods and facilitation. Proven ability to lead work teams in healthcare settings.
4. Familiarity with clinical, operational, financial and legal issues affecting strategy and operations in healthcare sector.
5. A high level of analytical skills necessary to assist in the development and implementation of new systems, techniques, to assess patient care and business workflow and/or procedures, to help determine departmental needs, to support improvements in departmental functioning, and to prepare special and recurring reports or analysis.
6. Experience and skills necessary to provide sound budgetary management of entire Neuroscience Center enterprise, including those areas that are directly managed as well as those that are coordinated with others.
7. Experience and skills necessary to hire and manage staff supporting all Neuroscience Center functions.
8. Excellent organizational skills necessary for project planning, definition, implementation, and evaluation of effectiveness.
9. Proven experience in managing other professional and support staff and departments and/or business units.
10. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in the use of computers and in managing data.
11. Demonstrated ability to conceive and execute new business programs in healthcare enterprises.
12. Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with teams of individuals from diverse settings and backgrounds.
13. Experience, understanding and familiarity with the complex management problems of a complicated, multidisciplinary, multi-specialty acute care program such as the Neuroscience Center.
14. Knowledge of project management, administrative practices, and hospital/healthcare systems normally acquired during 5 - 7 years of progressively responsible administrative work experience. Familiarity and comfort with complex administrative and clinical relationships in tertiary care settings.
15. Minimum Masters degree in healthcare related field or business or equivalent experience of greater than seven years in relevant healthcare settings.
