Geriatrics Emergency Medicine Service
SUMMARY: A nurse practitioner or CNS who provides screening, assessment, consultation, and intervention for elderly patients who arrive in the Emergency Department. Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Clinically assess Emergency Department (ED) patients who are elderly (65+).
2. Communicate patient progress and issues with ED physician and collaborate to develop treatment plans for elderly patients.
3. Communicate patient diagnosis, progress, and treatment plans to elderly residential facilities and family members.
4. Collect and maintain data regarding care and outcomes of elderly patients who present to the ED.
5. Provide ED clinical staff and students with formal and informal education regarding the care of elderly patients who present to the ED.
6.Participate in Quality Improvement activities related to the care of elderly patients who present to the ED.

Job Specifications:
-Registered Nurse with Masters Degree in Geriatric Nursing
-Certified in Geriatric nursing as a clinical specialist
-APRN licensure
-Certified as a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) in the State of Connecticut
-Minimum 3 5 years clinical experience related to Geriatric nursing
-Experience in Emergency nursing beneficial
