Job Summary: Performs embedding, microtomy, routine and special stains and immunohistochemistry, including technically complex procedures, following standard operating procedures for patient specimens, proficiency samples and quality control. Performs equipment maintenance and troubleshooting. Serves as a technical resource and preceptor/mentor. Evaluates new equipment and procedures and prepares standard operating procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications: High school graduate. Associate degree preferred. Histotechnician (HT). Histotechnologist (HTL) preferred. HT with 2 or more years of experience in a high complexity pathology lab. Demonstrated history of increasing responsibility and leadership. Prefers experience in computerized pathology lab. Excellent analytic skills; excellent ability to plan and organize technical work; clear speaking abilities; operating equipment; inputting data. Excellent dexterity. Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills. Cooperates harmoniously with others and shares information in a timely and appropriate manner. Demonstrates the ability to respond positively to changing circumstances so as to maximize the opportunity and minimize the problem. Repetitive movements; medium lifting (i.e. 50 lbs maximum); prolonged periods of walking, standing and sitting; repetitive bending and reaching.
