Nurse Manager of Neurological / Neurosurgical Unit

The Nurse Manager assumes 24 hour accountability and responsibility for translating the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of the hospital and the nursing division into effective action. Responsibility is divided into six major areas: clinical practice, leadership, collaboration, professional development, management of the environment and strategic planning. The manager will be responsible to collaborate with other members of the institution to insure the delivery of services to meet patient care needs and will be accountable for managing human, fiscal and other resources needed to support clinical care.
Wesson 4 is a 41 bed neurology specialty unit that supports a comprehensive Neuroscience/trauma program. Within this unit there is a 5 bed intermediate care area where continuous EKG, ICP, respiratory and pulse oximetry can occur. Both neurosurgical and neurological trauma patients may be admitted to the neuro-observation area on the unit. Specialty programs include an Epilepsy program with continuous videographics and electroencephalographic monitoring as well as an acute TPA stroke program. As part of an IHI initiative TCAB was piloted earlier this year. A true multidisciplinary team composed of doctors, nurses, case managers and social workers coordinate the care delivered to this patient population. PCTs and OAs support the clinical staff. There are approximately 80 FTEs in this department.
Qualifications:
Massachusetts RN licensure required. BSN, BS, or BA required, Masters preferred. Qualified candidates will have Telemetry experience and a minimum of two years of successful clinical management and leadership experience. Must possess strong PC skills as well as have knowledge and experience with developing & working with budgets.
