Qualifications
Preferred License/Certification - CPON Certified Ped Oncology Nurse
Required License/Certification - Registered Nurse

Education: Current Colorado RN license. This position requires 1-2 yrs Oncology experience, pediatric experience required in Oncology, COG research protocol exp. preferred, The RN/CRA engages in the lifelong learning process and critical review of literature and knowledge of research processes. Pursues opportunities to enhance knowledge by attending educational sessions Attends required Children’s Hospital training sessions. The RN/CRA acts as a resource and advocate of health care information and education for participants and their families with regards to the study protocol. Shares new knowledge with professional colleagues, and disseminates this knowledge through publications, presentation and seminars. May act as resource and advocate for change regarding the research process and regulatory practices both internally and externally at The Children’s Hospital. Pursues professional certification either nursing or CRA based.

Job Overview
The Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders (CCBD) is committed to high quality clinical care, which involves conducting research and tracking patients outcomes. The jobs purpose is to create and maintain a research database that will provide the most current and updated patient data that tracks the CCBD department’s patient’s progress throughout and after therapy. In addition it provides an extensive resource for researchers to continue in the development of new therapies and treatment modalities, as well as providing departmental quality assurance, treatment therapies, outcomes and compliance to member organizations [FACT (Federal accreditation of Hematopoietic Cell Transplant)-JACIE International BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant) Quality Management.

The successful RN/CRA candidate will utilize evidence-based practice to coordinate and facilitate clinical research studies according to nursing professional standards of The Children’s Hospital. The RN/CRA possesses a range of nursing skills, including but not limited to; collaboration with the primary health care team to develop individualized care plans for study participants, facilitation of in-service instruction for members of the health care team, demonstration of autonomy as well as the ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary health care team to meet the needs of the patient and family, and promotion of research as an integral component of evidence-based practice and professional education, developed through his/her nursing experience that can be applied to research. Working collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team, the RN/CRA undertakes the delivery of safe and ethical nursing care to address the needs of the research participants and/or their families. Integral to the RN/CRA role is the incorporation of knowledge of the nursing process into research.

Major Duties/Description: Possesses knowledge of the study population and is able to provide safe and ethical nursing care during study participation according to study protocol. Takes responsibility for assessment and monitoring of: eligibility status and process of informed consent; Coordinating the enrollment of participants into studies; study participants by ensuring compliance with protocol related treatments, anticipating potential problems and assessing the impact of the protocol on participants and their families; Develops, implements, maintains and evaluates protocol procedures. Develops a rapport with participants of diverse age, health status, and social and cultural backgrounds; Collaborates with the primary health care team. Acts as a liaison between the participants, their family and investigator(s) and advocates for the best interests of the child and communicates effectively with multiple partners in clinical practice and research both internally and externally.

Research: Coordinates and shares responsibility with supervision and principal investigator (PI) for all aspects of the research study which includes; Respects patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by The Children’s Hospital and applicable laws and regulations. Participates in scientific and ethical matters pertaining to research; maintains knowledge of, and adheres to research regulatory standards (Good Clinical Practice Guidelines); May participate in the preliminary data analysis, report writing, presentations and publications. Regarding the research study the RN/CRA may act on behalf of the principal investigator in communicating with industry, external institutions or other divisions at The Children’s Hospital.
