The Infectious Disease Division of the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is recruiting clinical fellows with an interest in specialized training in the Transplantation Infectious Disease and Compromised Host Program. Our program has trained many of the leaders in the field of Transplant Infectious Disease in the comprehensive care of immunocompromised individuals. Our faculty and clinical Fellows are integral members of the teams caring for Liver, Kidney, Pancreas, Heart, Lung, and Bone Marrow/Stem Cell Transplantation recipients.Fellows are active members of both the Infectious Disease Division of the MGH and of the MGH Transplant Center. Individualized academic programs are developed for trainees upon acceptance into the program. Applicants will have completed an ACGME-certified clinical Infectious Disease fellowship or the equivalent by the time they start training at MGH. Transplant ID Fellows will participate in both in-patient and out-patient clinical programs.By the end of their training, they will understand:- Multidisciplinary approaches to complex patients with organ failure, malignancy, and immunosuppression. - The pre- and post-transplantation assessment of critically ill patients and the timeline of infection after transplantation (See, e.g., Fishman JA, NEJM, 2007, 357, 25:59-72.)- The optimal deployment of diagnostic techniques in clinical management including radiological and molecular diagnostic tools- Development of individualized prophylactic strategies - Important aspects of basic science relevant to transplantation immunology and infectious disease. Join a large multi-specialty ambulatory group practice incorporating both adult and pediatric primary care, Women´s Health, general surgery, most medical and surgical specialties, behavioral health, dental, radiology (including obstetrical and gynecologic ultrasound done in the office), mammography, laboratory, and a full-service pharmacy. The Chelmsford practice has a weeknight and weekend Urgent Care facility, which can triage many same-day urgent patient visits and help patients avoid unnecessary hospital visits This practice is a leader in innovation within the group, often selected to develop and pilot new methods and tools for delivering care more effectively.The OB/GYN Practice is part of the larger practice and enjoys a collaborative relationship with the on-site services, as well as with other community OB/GYN physicians at one local hospital. The practice delivers approximately 40 to 50% of the babies at the Hospital and currently consists of 5 physicians, 6 certified nurse midwives, three registered nurses and one physician´s assistant. Patients are seen collaboratively between physicians and certified nurse midwives. A new physician coming into the practice can expect to have about 50% of the practice be obstetrics and 50% be gynecology. There are many opportunities to do minor, minimally invasive and major gynecologic surgery.The OB/GYN physicians take obstetrical call once about every 5 to 6 days. Call is currently for 24 hours and is taken together with a certified nurse midwife, who does the majority of the call triage. A full-time physician would be expected to work 5 to 6 office/surgical sessions per week (One session is about 4 booked hours in length) in addition to the call obligation. Regular practice group meetings to discuss patient and business issues occur once or twice a month.The entire practice uses an electronic medical record, which helps to unify, communicate and coordinate care among affiliated hospitals and all other group practices throughout eastern Massachusetts. Location information: The area encompasses several communities north of Boston and in southern New Hampshire along the Route 3 corridor. Half of the patients come from Lowell and Chelmsford. The area is expected to grow modestly in coming years. The patient mix is largely suburban middle class, but there are significant minority communities served by the practice, including Southeast Asian immigrants and a working class Hispanic community. Translation services are available for patient care on site, with Khmer, Portuguese and Lao representing the highest usage of translators. The site has an aging population and serves amongst the highest percentages of seniors within the group, largely in a Medicare Advantage HMO that leverages our strong medical management programs.This position is located about 45 minutes north of Boston. Living options include a wide range of largely suburban and rural settings in surrounding MA and southern NH. The area offers a convenient drive to Boston for arts and cultural activities, and to beaches, mountains and lakes in NH, VT, and ME in the north and in MA to the west. Massachusetts is known for its outstanding schools.An ideal physician candidate would be board certified in OB/GYN and should work well with certified nurse midwives.
