One of the strengths of LRCP is the state-of-the-art radiation therapy services that include 9 modern radiation therapy machines (including a tomotherapy unit), HDR and LDR brachytherapy, and access to CT, MRI, and PET-CT for treatment planning and monitoring. The Physics and Engineering Department, which includes medical physics, radiation planning, and engineering support services, is vital to the provision of state-of-the-art radiation therapy within a highly respected academic radiation oncology program which includes a CAMPEP-approved training program. The group has strong affiliations with the University of Western Ontario, Robarts Research Institute and Lawson Health Research Institute.Reporting to the Vice-President of LRCP, the Chief Medical Physicist & Manager of Physics and Engineering is responsible for managing a department of highly skilled professionals with accountability for the purchasing, commissioning, quality assurance, and maintenance of LRCPs radiation therapy equipment, with associated imaging and information systems. This equipment has a capital value of more than $36 million. Associated responsibility includes managing LRCPs radiation safety program and compliance with federal and provincial radiation safety licenses and regulations. This role is operationally responsible for radiation treatment planning and coordinating the work of treatment planning with the Departments of Radiation Therapy and of Radiation Oncology. The Chief Medical Physicist & Manager of Physics and Engineering is also expected to be academically active in the Medical Physics Research Program; LRCPs Medical Physics Training Programs in collaboration with the Department of Medical Biophysics, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry; and the training of Dosimetrists.Key Competencies:- Participatory leadership, strong team building and organizational skills- Excellent and effective abilities in both written and oral communication skills- Highly developed critical thinking skills and ability to conceptualize and analyze problems- Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, planning and evaluation skills- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills- Demonstrated behaviours supporting our Core Values of Respect, Trust, and Collaboration- Ability to effectively work with diversity, appreciating that different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics can bring richness to the challenge at hand- Ability to foster collaboration in an interdisciplinary team environment in clinical service, research, educationQualifications:- Successful completion of a minimum of a Masters Degree in Physics, Engineering or recognized equivalent; preference given to candidates who have completed a Ph.D. in Physics - Certified Medical Radiation Physicist, including successful completion of Cancer Care Ontario�s Review B procedure in clinical physics services in radiation oncology- Fellowship in Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine (FCCPM) or equivalent professional association(s)- Minimum of ten (10) years of medical physics experience in a cancer centre providing radiation therapy services. Experience in an academic cancer centre is preferred- Minimum five (5) years progressively more responsible experience in a leadership role within a cancer centre- Experience in academic training and/or research related to medical physics. Strong academic record, including evidence of peer-reviewed research publications and grants is preferred- Eligible for academic appointment within Department of Oncology and Department of Medical Biophysics, University of Western Ontario- Demonstrated experience with the principles and practice of Shared Leadership- Knowledge and comprehensive understanding of budgets, labour relations (PIPSC, ONA-Allied) and hospital operations preferred- A track record of successful transition/change managementWe foster a culture of patient and staff safety whereby all employees are guided by LHSCs Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct.
