A. Provide primary administrative oversight for the department´s clinical accounting function and various sub-budgets within the department. Programmatically, Pediatrics has sub-budgets in three distinct areas: education (residency, CME and medical student education) computer services and the genetic counseling training program. Perform financial planning and budgeting functions for the department´s clinical business and serve as the primary person accountable for budget reconciliation or delegation of such. This entails regular interaction with the departments accountant, participation in the annual budgeting process in conjunction with the Director, ongoing (i.e., monthly) review of actual to budget reports and involvement with annual determination and implementation of the departments faculty compensation plan. This will also involve advising the Chair and Director about policy changes, providing details of the impact to the department and making recommendations based on proposed changes.Additionally, this position serves as the first line of accountability for the Department for clinical budgeting, both on the front-end with budget development and in an ongoing and year-end adjudication process. For all faculty hires, serve as the primary contact point (or delegate such responsibility) for clinical licensing and credentialing, including those faculty whom are external, contracted hires, the department´s chief residents, fellows hired as moonlighters and others for whom credentialing is required.B. Provide leadership of patient care coding, billing and data entry functions by directly supervising the coding coordinator, which entails coordinating efforts to maintain efficient, appropriate and timely coding, billing and reimbursement for professional services rendered in the department. Provide guidance to the coding coordinator and serve as the department´s liaison in matters related to billing or payment policies, electronic reporting and others as determined by the Director of Business Services. Position also serves as the primary point of contact (or delegates this role) for electronic medical record questions, training and/or issues.C. Serve as a limited back up for University of Wisconsin School of Medicine budgetary issues. Position is expected to gain increasing familiarity with (MAMA) and how it determines financial allocations to departments as well as to develop increasing independence with the different account structure and hierarchy used by the UW. This function will assist in understanding how all revenues and costs of the department interrelate.Position also involves participation as a member of the department´s management team. This includes developing a thorough knowledge of all elements of department fiscal management, a working knowledge of the department´s research and grant activities, familiarity with its training programs, the scope of its external contracts, current space allocations and annual cycles for keeping an academic department running efficiently and effectively.Position serves as a limited back up for the Director in department business, including representing the department at meetings, being a resource for faculty and staff, assisting where needed in critical times and in general, setting an example for other staff in professionalism.
