POSITION PURPOSE- Work with the Chair and MCW Senior Administration to support the Business Cycle, including forecasting, business operations planning, and strategic planning for growth, maximizing reimbursement and revenue streams.- Responsible for the management of staff creating a structure that maximizes faculty effectiveness.- Manage the day-to-day business operations of the department, including human resources, financial, budget, and regulatory requirements.- Work with the Chair and MCW Senior Administration to implement the administrative and financial infrastructure for the successful operation of the department, paving the way for growth and quality improvement in all four missions: education, patient care, research and community engagement.- Work with the Chair, MCW Senior Administration, and Emergency Medicine Faculty to collaborate across MCW Departments and Centers. Community and Business Organizations, and Governmental agencies for success and growth in all four missions of MCW ESSENTIAL DUTIES1) Works with the Department Chair to develop and implement strategic and tactical plans for clinical growth, research success, educational quality, productivity and community engagement. a) Facilitates partnerships and strategic alliances for clinical expansion and engagement with the community. b) Measures the financial and operational effect of decisions and actions.c) Analyzes financial, organizational and operational problems in depth, relates and compares data from different sources, determining root causes and subtle relationships among data.2) Works in concert with and maintains a collaborative relationship with the Senior Administration of MCW to ensure engagement with the mission and strategic plan of the College.3) Manages the operations of the Department within the fiscal and productivity guidelines of MCW.a. Develops annual budget within MCW guidelines and timeframes in collaboration with the Chair.b. Determines and monitors appropriate staffing based on budgetary expectations.c. Ensures that the physical environment, routine equipment, supply inventories, and other items are reasonably anticipated and maintained.d. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of the MCWs management information system and reports.4) Uses the principles of planning and goal setting to accomplish personal, department and MCW objectives.a. Works with the Department Chair and faculty to develop department goals which flow from MCW strategic goals.b. Develops yearly personal goals which reflect individual needs and department priorities, taking responsibility for goal achievement.e. Demonstrates commitment to personal and professional growth through ongoing educational activities.f. Develops and implements strategic plans for clinical growth, revenue enhancement, and grant procurement.g. Measures the financial and operational impact of decisions and actions.5) Provides leadership and supervision to ensure quality services are provided by a competent staff.a. Determines the departments complement of staff to meet the needs of the department. Emphasis is on development and staff retention. b. Ensures orientation of all new staff.c. Maintains open communication between staff, management, chair and faculty.d. Manages and leads staff by setting high, challenging standards of performance. Gives honest and timely feedback. e. Works with the Chair to builds team cohesiveness by aligning both department and MCW goals. f. Praises, coaches or counsels staff effectively; accurately documents staff performance in annual evaluation sessions and periodically throughout the year as needed.g. Ensures that job descriptions and performance standards are current for all positions.h. Facilitates change through coaching and role modeling.6) Ensures the provision of proactive department services.a. Models behaviors associated with the philosophy of continuous quality improvement (acknowledging mistakes, creating an environment to facilitate staff empowerment to assume responsibility, supporting systems improvement, and facilitating the coordination of faculty support).b. Interacts with all staff to solicit feedback and to become aware of issues, concerns and effectiveness in providing administrative service.c. Maintains a service orientation, identifies the needs and quality expectations of all stakeholders and develops mechanisms to meet those.d. Acts as a role model in providing inter-departmental cooperation, proactive attitude, and flexibility.e. Ensures unit meets all professional, governmental and regulatory standards.f. Implements innovative programs or projects that contribute to stakeholder satisfaction, MCWs budgetary goals and evaluates the effectiveness of such programs.g. Is able to assess readiness and manage people through change processes.10)Builds and maintains long term relationships both within MCW and with external key partners and other stakeholders. MINIMUM POSITION QUALIFICATIONSAppropriate education and/or experience may be substituted on equivalent basis Education:Bachelor´s Degree in Business, Administration or related field. Masters degree preferred. Experience:8 years progressively responsible related management experience in a clinical setting. Academic experience preferred Certifications/Licenses:None.
