ThedaCare, an integrated health system, located in Northeastern Wisconsin, seeks a full-time BC/BE Family Practice, Internal Medicine or Emergency Medicine physician to provide coverage at New London Family Medical Center, a 25-bed critical access hospital. Full time is defined as at least 12 - 12-hour shifts per month. Additional shifts and 24 hour shifts will be considered. Qualified candidates will be expected to live within 30 miles from the hospital.This position is responsible for a broad range of emergency room cases, including trauma, ambulatory care, primary care and geriatric medicine. The volume is 9,000 visits per year. A typical mix of diagnoses include lacerations, chest pain, abdominal pain, ankle sprain, otitis media, UTI, gastroenteritis, bronchitis and pharyngitis. The trauma mainly consists of industrial and motor vehicular accidents .The department has 4 major medical/trauma rooms and in addition there are 3 minor exam rooms. There is portable x-ray, CT, ultrasound and fluoroscopy. During the day, the studies are read on-site. After regular radiology hours, the plain films, CTs and ultrasounds are interpreted immediately by digital link. The facility also has cardiac CT angiography - 64 slice, and brain perfusion CT for acute strokes. The group uses an EMR and all order entry is done electronically. Notes are dictated or the physician can use voice recognition software. There is immediate access to reports and the primary care physicians have access to your notes when they are on call or in the office.The group works in a collaborative model with nursing. Extensive nursing protocols are in place and there is a core staff of 2 RNs and a technician each shift. In addition, the paramedics for the ambulance service are also in-house and available to assist in the department. Patients are taken immediately to a room and triaged to the level of acuity there. In addition, acute traumas are referred to the Level II Trauma Center at Theda Clark Medical Center. There is a close working relationship between the ED physicians and all the specialists in the Appleton/Neenah area. Many of the specialty physicians provide outreach clinics at New London Family Medical Center.
