As part of the dynamic clinical leadership team at Planned Parenthood of New York City (PPNYC), the Associate Medical Director of Clinical Programs assists the Chief Medical Officer in the oversight of clinical services, quality of care, and regulatory compliance at our collaborative health centers. Specifically serves as the designated supervising physician for three health centers on Long Island. Provides direct patient services as well as medical leadership and clinical supervision for staff. Supervises and ensures quality training for clinical staff as needed. Participates in operational planning and continuous quality improvement of clinical and ancillary health services. This position is 0.7 FTE and it includes approximately 2-2.5 days per week on Long Island. A more full time option may be available.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES1.Assists the Chief Medical Officer and senior clinical management in operational planning and implementation of reproductive health services and programs. 2. Provides direct clinical services in the following areas as needed: first and second trimester surgical abortions, medication abortions, ultrasonography, prenatal care, colposcopy, LEEP, office gynecology and family planning.3. Provides clinical supervision and consultation to clinical staff during center hours and oversees and participates in the on-call system.4. Provides physician supervision of clinical activities to ensure regulatory compliance and adherence to sound, evidence-based medical practices and policies.5.Participates in recruitment, selection, credentialing, evaluation, and supervision of physician staff and clinician managers; 6.Designs, implements and evaluates training and education programs for Advanced Practice Clinicians; participates in training of other clinical staff and agency-authorized residents and fellows as needed.7. Participates in the development, revision, and implementation of clinical protocols and policies in accordance with PPFA Medical Standards and Guidelines. Ensures that materials distributed to patients, the public, and community partners are medically accurate and up to date.8. In collaboration with senior clinical management, oversees the quality of ancillary services related to delivery of medical programs (e.g., anesthesia services, laboratory services, medical equipment and supplies, pharmacological agents). May serve as the physician of record for ordering and distribution of drugs and devices in compliance with state and federal laws.9. Coordinates and leads work teams to plan, implement and evaluate new or improved clinical services and programs. 10. Provides physician leadership in support of the Quality and Risk Management (QRM) program. Duties may include participation in the QRM Committee meetings, clinical chart audits, systems improvement initiatives, preparation for regulatory and accreditation reviews, monitoring of quality indicators, and other activities as needed.11. Assists in scheduling physician coverage of clinic sessions and on call service as needed.12. Meets periodically with members of the PP4NY physician leadership team to enhance leadership development and identify opportunities for cross-affiliate collaboration in clinical services, training and research.13. Serves as a physician liaison to hospitals providing back-up services for all matters related to the referral, transfer and care of patients. 14. Represents the agency in communications and presentations to the external medical community and public as appropriate.15. Completes all responsibilities according to established protocols, policies and standard practices in the areas of customer service, ADA and regulatory compliance programs such as HIPAA. Works effectively with management, staff and volunteers.16. Other duties may be assigned.QUALIFICATIONS:Requires Doctor of Medicine (MD) with specialty in Obstetrics and Gynecology or another specialty with appropriate training and expertise in reproductive health care. Must be licensed to practice medicine in New York State and have active status for specialty Board certification. Minimum 3 years of related/applicable experience, including experience in both clinical practice and supervision. Demonstrated excellence in relevant ambulatory surgery required, including performance of surgical abortions up to at least 14 weeks gestation (second trimester abortion experience preferred), and evidence-based clinical practice in reproductive health. Must possess experience and excellence as a physician leader, clinical supervisor, and medical educator with a track record of success in working collaboratively and in a team-focused environment. Requires excellent verbal/written communication skills, proficiency in basic computer skills and software, including Word, and the ability to learn other software programs as needed. This position will require a minimum of 3.5 workdays per week with the possibility of a more fulltime option. Includes 2-2.5 days per week on Long Island (including all Thursdays and 1-2 Saturdays per month, subject to change). Must have willingness to work flexible hours and to travel as needed to provide clinical services, supervision and to attend meetings.We offer a competitive salary and excellent benefits.
