The Stanford University Occupational Health Center (SUOHC) was established in 2007 to care for the occupational health needs of Stanford University faculty and staff, and is dedicated to providing outstanding clinical care to improve the health and safety of university employees. SUOHC is a campus-based medical clinic that offers evaluation and treatment for work-related injuries and illnesses, work-related preventive medical services, and OSHA and departmentally-mandated medical surveillance programs.The Medical Assistant/Project Coordinator is expected to work under minimal supervision of the Nurse Practitioner /Physician Assistant and to adhere to HIPAA and Health & Safety Compliance, which includes maintaining confidentiality; following HIPAA requirements; following SUOHC Safety and Infection Prevention guidelines, policies and procedures for self, clients, visitors and employees; and complying with governmental regulations and University and departmental policies regarding health and safety.The full description of duties, responsibilities, and qualifications can be found at the Stanford Jobs website (URL and instructions below).Duties and Responsibilities:To support the Occupational Health Programs, the Medical Assistant/Project Coordinators duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Coordinating activities for complex medical surveillance programs, such as the Laboratory Animal Occupational Health Program, Tuberculosis, Respirator, and Allergy programs; Acting as Special Project Coordinator for on-site events such as Wellness and Benefits Fairs, Influenza Clinics, Risk Assessment Training, etc.; Reviewing Incoming Incident Investigation Reports and determining the need for employee to be seen at SUOHC Performing patient-care responsibilities including rooming of patients, obtaining patient vital signs, and phlebotomy, audiograms, spirometry, EKG and clinical tests as requested. Performing medical surveillance testing such as hearing exams, pulmonary function tests, vision screening, blood draws and immunizations, etc. Providing clinical operations support, including patient scheduling, arranging referrals to specialists, obtaining approvals for various patient procedures and referrals through the University´s Workers Compensation carrier, and handling billing and insurance documentation and procedures; sending out laboratory samples; and maintaining inventory Organizing, preparing and maintaining client files (paper and online); maintaining databases and files for surveillance, Utilization Review, and other required tracking and documentation.A strong clinical knowledge base is required to perform the duties and responsibilities of this position. Thus the following technical knowledge and skills are required: A high school diploma and 3-5 years of directly applicable experience, or an AA/AS degree with 1-2 years of directly applicable experience. Knowledge and skills equivalent to those acquired through an accredited Medical Assistant certification program, including basic knowledge of medical terminology and reporting Ability to perform supportive medical services (e.g. administer medication, audiogram, spirometry; apply and remove bandages; apply orthopedic devices; select, adjust and instruct re crutch or cane use, remove sutures, perform ear lavage, collect lab specimens, etc.) Certification in phlebotomy and basic CPR Current HIPAA certification or willingness to attain certification Successful experience in medical billing essentials, including coding, price negotiation, vendor selection Proven ability to implement and maintain programs such as Tuberculosis, Audiometric, Respiratory Medical Surveillance Programs, Lab Animal Occupational Health Program
