Vacancy # 000921School of Dentistry East Carolina University’s new School of Dentistry invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of its Division of Surgical Sciences. This division is responsible for the curriculum and specialty level care in the areas of endodontology, oral-maxillofacial surgery, and periodontology for the students and residents. Curricular innovation and clinical excellence will be hallmarks of the new school, with the first students beginning in 2011. ECU is the third largest public university in North Carolina, and the school is committed to the education of health care professionals dedicated to providing care to underserved citizens of the state. The Chair of the Division of Surgical Sciences (CDSS) provides leadership and management for the School in areas related to endodontology, oral-maxillofacial surgery (OMS), and periodontology. The Chair reports directly to the dean. The CDSS will be responsible for recruiting the endodontics, oral-maxillofacial surgical, and periodontal faculty. The CDSS maintains a strong supportive relationship with administrators and other faculty and staff to provide a mission focus and to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and state and federal education regulations related to the Schools educational programs and clinical operations. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.Required Qualifications: DDS or DMD degree (or equivalent) from an appropriately accredited institution; qualified for a North Carolina dental license; board certification in endodontology, OMS, or periodontology; and five years of experience in dental education at the institutional level, working in development, implementation, evaluation, and monitoring of an educational program leading to the dental degree. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated record of increasing leadership responsibilities, preferably as a program director, division head, or chair. Commitment to and evidence of building teams in planning and to identify and resolve problems.
