In conjunction with the Director, maintains the proper staffing/drug purchasing levels in accordance with patient acuity and budget parameters. Responsibilities include but are not limited to fiscal, human resource, regulatory, clinical and operational functions in regards to pharmaceuticals. Maintains a 24 hour/day accountability and serves as responsible for the Department in the absence of the Director. Performs staffing requirement as a pharmacist during the normal course of the position on a regular basis. Coordinates staff hiring and supply management utilization activities. Also active in department medication safety projects/programs. 1. Assists the Director with supervising daily operations of the pharmacy department including but not limited to: employee work schedules, day to day continuous performance feedback and supervision, and performance appraisals.2. Provides biweekly new nursing orientation as needed.3. Assists in the completion of annual performance appraisals.4. Maintains Departmental Safety program assists with Departmental Education and competencies´ programs. 5. Acts as staff pharmacist and staffs the Department based upon need.6. Assists with monitoring and implementation of Department´s quality improvement program; follows up on specific criteria; prepares reports for both internal and external review.7. Monitors completion of annual mandatory competencies in the department and reports as necessary to the hospital Safety and Education departments.8. Insures complete and comprehensive pharmacy orientation for all new employees9. Oversees responsibility of the controlled substance distribution system, including but not limited to: perpetual inventory in the central pharmacy vault, audits, forms and patient care areas´ distribution.10. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current FL Pharmacist license or licensure eligible Education: B. S. or Pharm D degree in Pharmacy from College of Pharmacy accredited by American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP). Experience: One to three years recent inpatient hospital experience as staff pharmacist. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 1) Critical thinking skills, organizational, verbal, interpersonal, customer r elations, mathematical, analytical, grammar/spelling, read/comprehend written instructions, follow verbal instructions, computer, clerical2) Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of the practice of pharmacy. Demonstrates the ability to plan, provide and monitor the delivery of pharmaceutical services. 3) Ability to recognize the needs and concerns of people and to maintain constructive relationships in dealing with them. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Participates in counseling and guidance of personnel. Ability to assume 24 hour/day responsibility for integration of interpersonal aspects in all patient care. Recognized personal responsibility in striving for innovative health care delivery which meets contemporary needs and assumes leadership in negotiating for changes in health care. 4) Responsible for maintaining knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and established standards concerning practice of Pharmacy. Acts in a consulting and advisory capacity to physicians, nursing, and various departments. 5) Responsible for pharmaceutical and related supplies purchasing and utilization management with adherence to budget, care and maintenance of equipment, and drug and supply inventory.
