Antioch, California, lies on the San
Joaquin River in Contra Costa County
in the San
Francisco-Oakland
metropolitan area. The city, formerly
known as Smiths Landing, was incorporated
in 1872, although settlement of the
area can be traced back to the middle
of the 19th century.
